WYRE BOROUGH COUNCIL PLANNING COMMITTEE REFUSES PERMISSION FOR TWO TURBINES AT ORCHARD END, LANCASHIRE

Steve Allen, Development Manager at Cornwall Light and Power, said: “We continue to believe that the proposed site is a prime location for wind turbines, with a strong wind resource and potential to provide clean energy for over 2,000 local homes.  Importantly, our proposal for two wind turbines at Orchard End has also been carefully developed to take account of local concerns.  In particular, we’ve undertaken technical studies to confirm that there will be no significant adverse impact to the local ecology, including pink-footed geese in the area.

“Development of the Orchard End site would also play an important role in helping Lancashire to reach its own ambitious renewable energy targets and help to reduce the 13 million tonnes of CO2 released in the county per year.  Lancashire County Council’s own statistics underline the need to limit climate change, with at least 93,000 people in the county at risk of flooding due to rising sea levels for example.

“We will be investigating all options before deciding what steps to take next, and will ensure that the local community is updated accordingly. Information will also be available on our website - www.clpwindprojects.co.uk.”
