project stats The UKs most southerly windfarm was constructed in early 1993. Goonhilly was one of the first projects in the UK and a first for CLP. During its lifetime it has averaged an availability of over 98%, and has been meeting the electricity requirements of over 2300 local homes.

2CV Annual Rally at Goonhilly - 29th July 2008

Goonhilly hosted the 2CV Annual Rally on 29th July 2008. Over 80 cars took part in the event, including Nikita and Dominic Norton (above).

Goonhilly Wind Farm Open Day - 14th June 2008

Cornwall Light and Power threw open the doors to its leading wind farm last weekend, welcoming over 150 people onto their site.

The day was a huge success, and included a range of activities for all the family. Particularly popular with the children were the face painting and colouring competition, while the adults were able to make the most of the guided turbine tours.

Visitors also had the chance to chat with members of the CLP team and learn more about wind energy and its benefits.

Commenting on the day, CLP Chief Executive Neil Harris said: “The site at Goonhilly has been producing green electricity for 14 years and is very much part of the community, so it was great to see so many people from the surrounding areas there, enjoying their wind power experience!

“With fuel prices currently dominating the headlines, it’s vital that people understand renewable energy and the benefits it can offer. Events like the Goonhilly Open Day are a great way to reach out to people and offer them answers to questions and misconceptions they may have had about wind power.”
