At our first public exhibition last summer, 54% of attendees indicated that they were broadly happy with the use of Hallburn Farm for a small scale wind project. Since then we have been working to develop a scheme that can make best use of the excellent wind resource at the site and generate optimal clean electricity, while at the same time being acceptable to local people. Our work since our last exhibition has included on-site specialist studies which have confirmed to us that this is an ideal site for a small scale wind farm, including:
- A full Environmental Impact Assessment
- A Cultural Heritage Assessment of the area
- A landscape and visual assessment
- An Access and Transport assessment
We have also commissioned an independent company to produce detailed and accurate visualisations of the proposed turbines to industry standards from a number of viewpoints in order to demonstrate how the scheme would fit within the local landscape. These will be available to view at the exhibition.
Our next public exhibition will be held at Longtown Memorial Hall Community Centre on Sunday 6 June 11am-3pm, and Monday 7 June 12pm-8pm. We will also be providing details of the contents of our planning application to demonstrate how your comments at the first exhibition have influenced our final proposals and give you an opportunity to ask further questions of the development team. Following the exhibition, we will be submitting a formal planning application to Carlisle City Council.

July 2009
Cornwall Light and Power held a public exhibition to introduce its initial proposals for the project at Hallburn Farm and gather feedback from the local community on 10 and 11 July 2009
Following the exhibition further studies will be conducted at the site by Cornwall Light and Power, including ecological surveys and visual assessments, to determine the site’s potential for a wind farm. Should a final proposal be progressed local people will have a second opportunity to view the plans and provide feedback prior to any formal planning submission.
