The latest at Orchard End
December 2009
On 2nd December Wyre Borough Concil voted to refuse planning permission for two wind turbines at Orchard End, despite the proposal being recommended for approval by planning officers. A media statement can be viewed here
More information will be available here as it becomes available.
May 2009
Following careful consideration of the reasons for Wyre Borough Council’s refusal of our planning application in May 2008 we have decided to resubmit the application. Since this time, we have completed further technical work including further avian surveys which have confirmed the suitability of the site.
Location
Orchard End, near Eagland Hill in Pilling, Lancashire.

Background to the site
Cornwall Light and Power is submitting plans for a wind farm at Orchard End. The scheme could have a nominal capacity of 4MW and may produce up to 9460 Megawatt hours of clean electricity per annum. This would be the equivalent of the consumption of approximately 2,000 households based on the UK average domestic electricity consumption of 4,700kWh.
An accurate calculation of carbon dioxide emissions prevented by any wind turbine is complicated by the fact that CO2 generated by conventional power generation, including coal and gas, varies from year to year. The Orchard End turbines will prevent at least 3,550 tonnes of CO² emissions per annum and a theoretical maximum would be 8,400 tonnes per annum. Future changes in the power generation mix and fuel costs in the UK mean that this figure may change over time.
