Cornwall Light and Power took SVEAG's (Sid Valley Energy Action Group) Gilly Jones to visit the turbines at Roskrow Barton. You can read about her experiences on her blog

Cornwall Light and Power welcomed over 400 visitors to its Open Day at Roskrow Barton in Cornwall on Saturday 20 June.

The free event offered local families a fun and educational day out to celebrate not just wind energy but all sustainable initiatives in Cornwall. Popular attractions included guided tours of one of the 70m high turbines, face painting and balloon modelling, and the organic barbeque raised £400 for Falmouth Hospital League of Friends.

The event was organised in conjunction with Boswin Organic Farm and Tremough Campus, which also saw a steady stream of visitors throughout the day.

November 2008 - Roskrow Barton highly commended at South West Green Energy Awards

Cornwall Light and Power was Highly Commended at the South West Green Energy Awards for their Roskrow Barton wind cluster in Cornwall. The awards were presented on 25 November 2008 and celebrate the top greeen achievements in the region.

Roskrow Barton was one of three schemes nominated in the Best Large Renewable Energy Scheme category, and received the award not just for the approximate 5,500 MW hours of clean, green energy it produces every year but also for its prominent standing in the local community.

CLP has forged strong links with the nearby University College Falmouth and its students were allowed unprecedented access throughout the construction and turbine erection phases. They have also been given access to the data system, which gives information on the amount of energy being produced. With the life of the project expected to be at least 20 years, the potential for research is enormous.

Roskrow Barton has proved popular amongst the younger local people too, playing host to visits from Tregony and Probus primary schools, where the children were given a valuable insight into the energy for the future.

May 2008 - Probus Community Primary School visit our site at Roskrow Barton

At the beginning of May, CLP and Year 5 students from Probus Community Primary School came together for a visit to CLP’s latest wind project at Roskrow Barton, near Penryn.

With the aim of bringing learning to life, the students were shown around by Project Developer, Simon Pipkin, and Project Liaison Officer, Tristan Mackie.

The class of 30 pupils were given a hands-on lesson in renewable energy and even got a chance to go into the base of one of the turbines so they could see for themselves how the power is generated and passed to the sub-station.

The two turbines they visited have a combined capacity of 1.7 megawatts and produce enough energy for more than 1,000 Cornish homes.

The children left the visit feeling extremely enthusiastic about wind energy, and have since written letters on the subject to the power generating company E.ON.

We also had a visit from Tregony Primary School in early June - they all had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed discovering the wonders of wind farms for themselves. Click here to read Charlie and Milly's letters in support of the wind industry.
