The Company
In a nutshell, The Cornwall Light & Power Company Ltd. ('CLP') is a UK company which is set up to build, own, and operate renewable energy plant in the UK, typically wind farms. CLP was originally created over a decade ago to build and operate one of the first wind farms in the country, which has been successfully running ever since. In June 2005, it was bought from its original owners by a specialist investment company: Renewable Energy Generation Ltd., or 'REG'.
REG is a new business, formed in May 2005, with a single purpose: to invest in renewable energy projects. The first REG investment was CLP, which owns Goonhilly Downs wind farm, a 12 year old 5.6MW project. REG is now investing in and building further UK wind projects through CLP. REG is unusual in a number of respects: it is surrounded with a huge amount of expertise; it can only invest in renewable energy; whilst listed in London, it is truly international; and above all it has shareholders drawn from some of the world's largest financial institutions. Renewable Energy has a great future, but it needs capital investment if it is to continue to promote generation of green renewable electricity. REG has been created to help that investment process, and participates in the UK through CLP.
The directors of CLP are Neil Harris, Andrew Whalley, Bruce Woodman and Dave Crockford. Andrew is a very experienced manager of specialist funds that invest in power companies. Bruce is a very experienced renewable energy specialist with over 15 years in the industry. He has developed and built projects in several countries, including the UK. He has twice been a director of the British Wind Energy Association. Dave joined REG from Duchy Originals Limited where he worked as Chief Financial Officer. David brings with him wide international experience of financial management, control, investment appraisal and capital structures. Neil is the CEO of CLP.
